As we approach the holidays and the end of the year, we would like to thank each and every one of you who has shown your support for saving the Historic Church of St. Hubertus. Although our hearts are heavy with the possibility that the church may be razed, we are encouraged by the number of those in the community who have spoken up and made their voices heard.
A total of 1,289 parishioners and other community members responded to the survey sent out by the St. Hubert Parish. The results are in, and the majority indicated they would like to see the historic church restored in some manner. Supporters of restoring the church said they would contribute $2.14 million to the effort. This is truly amazing!
While we are so happy to see these results, we also understand that restoration estimates range from $2.5 – $3.9 million, and the parish has other projects to consider. We do not know when the parish will announce their decision, but we do need to prepare for the possibility that the decision may not be the one we are hoping for.
Regardless of the decision, know that we at the Chanhassen Historical Society will continue in our efforts to save the historic church. If necessary, we will call upon our city’s elected leaders to step in and take action.
To prepare for this possibility, we are now asking the community to show their support for saving the church by signing this petition. Please take a moment to add your name to the list.
During this special time of year, with the beautiful snow and holiday lights brightening our old town, we remember our history and those who came before us. And we are thankful.
We wish you and yours the happiest of holidays, and we will see you in 2026 – ready for any new challenges with hope in our hearts.
